Wine importers in Vietnam supply restaurants, hotels, specialist stores and other trade customers through different regional networks. For a winery, the strongest shortlist combines portfolio fit with evidence of active account coverage, reliable storage and a workable plan for repeat orders.
Updated 24 September 2026. A practical guide for wineries and export managers.
Plan a city and channel launch
Separate the opportunity in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and hospitality destinations such as Da Nang or Phu Quoc. Ask prospective partners which sales teams and stock locations serve the accounts you want to reach. The existence of a branch is useful evidence of a presence, but the commercial discussion should establish what that branch can do for your range.
Choose a customer proposition before choosing the importer. Restaurant wines, premium estate allocations and retail gifting programmes require different price points, quantities and support. For a small winery, a focused first range with a clear replenishment route can be more practical than a wide national launch.
Use our market-selection guide to compare the required investment with other destinations. General growth forecasts should not replace a buyer-specific sales plan.
Examples of wine importers and distributors in Vietnam
| Company | Business profile | What a winery should assess |
|---|---|---|
| The Warehouse | Wine importer and distributor with an international portfolio and stores and branches across major Vietnamese cities and hospitality destinations. | Confirm which local team would develop your range, the intended accounts and how stock would be allocated between locations. |
| Da Loc Fine Wines & Spirits | Wine and spirits importer supplying restaurants, hotels, resorts, supermarkets and distribution stores, with a network of wholesale branches and wine education. | Assess the relevant portfolio segment, competing producers and the balance of hospitality, retail and wholesale sales proposed for your wines. |
| Red Apron Fine Wines & Spirits | Wine and spirits specialist combining a multi-city retail network with hospitality supply, staff training and a wine school. | Clarify the contracting and importing entities, own-store versus trade development, and support for introducing your estate to customers. |

Build pricing for the intended sales period
Work backwards from the target retail or restaurant price in Vietnamese đồng. Separate freight, customs treatment, special consumption tax, other applicable taxes, storage, local delivery and channel margins. Product origin and classification matter, so do not apply one tariff assumption to every winery.
Vietnam’s revised special consumption tax law keeps the rate for wine below 20% ABV at 35% through 2026, with increases beginning in 2027 and reaching 60% in 2031. USDA’s Vietnam Exporter Guide explains the timetable. This is one tax component, not the total tax burden or a percentage to apply directly to your ex-cellar quote.
Ask the importer to model the correct tax base and the period in which the stock will be sold. A launch extending into a new tax year needs a pricing review, particularly if it involves long lead times or substantial stock holding.
Make hospitality distribution measurable
If the proposal centres on hotels or resorts, agree the actual account types, list-review timing and service requirements. Ask whether purchasing is controlled by an individual property, a group buyer or a local distributor. Identify who presents your wines and follows up after the first tasting.
For by-the-glass wines, discuss continuity, replacement vintages and the economics of smaller repeat deliveries. For premium bottle-list wines, prepare a concise estate presentation and staff training material. Keep the opening range narrow enough for the sales team to explain and support.
Retail or gifting proposals need a separate stock plan. Confirm packaging specifications, delivery deadlines and responsibility for unsold seasonal inventory before committing to customised packs or large allocations.
Check logistics and import preparation before dispatch
Request a plan for temperature-managed storage and onward delivery. Clarify port handling, inland transfers and responsibility for quality issues. A national distribution promise should explain how the wine reaches each launch location in suitable condition.
Agree who reviews the applicable product documents, import permissions and Vietnamese label information. Confirm the sample receiving instructions before shipping bottles, then use the tasting outcome to decide whether to proceed with a commercial shipment.
Questions to ask a Vietnamese wine buyer
- What gap does our wine fill in the current portfolio?
- Which cities and customer types would the assigned team cover?
- Who buys and imports the wine, and who holds the stock?
- What opening volume and repeat-order cycle are realistic?
- Who funds training, tastings and launch material?
- When will we review account development, stock and sales?
Record the answers using our importer qualification checklist. Define territory, channels and review conditions before granting broad exclusivity.

Frequently asked questions
Should I appoint one importer for all of Vietnam?
Evaluate the actual coverage and support offered. A national appointment should have a credible regional sales plan, stock arrangements and performance reviews.
Does a wine shop network guarantee hospitality distribution?
No. Ask about the dedicated trade team and relevant accounts. Own-store sales and supplying external restaurants are different routes to market.
How should a winery approach a Vietnamese importer?
