Wine importers in Thailand serve restaurants, hotels, specialist merchants and broader retail distribution. The best partner for a winery depends on the intended customer, selling price and launch territory. A restaurant-focused estate range and a commercial retail programme need different buying teams and sales support.
Updated 24 September 2026. A practical guide for wineries and export managers.
Choose a specific route into the Thai wine market
Build the first proposal around named account types and locations. For a Bangkok restaurant launch, ask about list positioning, by-the-glass economics and the distributor’s active sales team. For resort hospitality, establish the buying calendar, delivery route and replenishment service in the intended destination.
Tourism can help explain why hospitality matters, but visitor totals are not a sales forecast for your wines. Similarly, an importer’s ability to deliver nationwide should be checked separately from its ability to develop accounts outside its main operating areas.
Thailand also has domestic grape-wine producers. Evaluate imported wines on portfolio fit and commercial merit rather than assuming there is no local competition. Siam Winery, one of the examples below, combines local production with an imported range.
Examples of wine importers in Thailand
| Company | Business profile | What a winery should assess |
|---|---|---|
| Wine Pro | Wine and spirits importer and distributor serving restaurants and hotels, with branches in Bangkok, Phuket and Hua Hin and temperature-controlled logistics. | Assess the relevant hospitality accounts, price tier and regional delivery arrangements for your proposed launch. |
| Wine Garage | Bangkok-based importer specialising in artisanal wines from producers across established and less familiar wine regions. | Check estate philosophy, style and price fit, plus the education needed to introduce the wines to its customers. |
| Siam Winery | Thai wine producer and distributor with an imported World of Wines portfolio alongside its domestic brands. | Clarify the imported-wine buying remit and how your offer complements the group’s own production and existing international brands. |

Wine import duty and excise are different costs
Thailand changed its wine tax framework in February 2024. USDA’s March 2024 report documents the removal of wine import tariffs and lower excise taxation. This is a dated policy change, not evidence that imported wine is free of all taxes.
The Thai Excise Department’s announcement explains that grape wine and sparkling grape wine moved to a 5% value-based excise component, alongside an alcohol-volume component. The old claim that bottles below 1,000 baht are simply tax-free should not be used for pricing.
Have the importer confirm the current product classification and full calculation for the shipment date. Build a baht price model that includes all applicable taxes, freight, clearance, storage, local delivery and margins. A reduction in one tax component does not translate automatically into the same percentage reduction in the final shelf price.
Match the wine offer to the channel
Restaurants and hotels
Separate reliable by-the-glass wines from premium bottle-list selections. Discuss available vintages, replacement stock and the training required for staff to recommend the range. If the buyer proposes a hotel group, establish whether purchasing is centralised or decided property by property.
Specialist merchants and artisanal portfolios
Present a clear reason for adding your estate. Technical sheets should support the wine’s origin and production approach without relying on vague quality claims. Agree how a new listing will reach appropriate customers and who will manage tastings or trade education within the applicable rules.
Broader retail distribution
Lead with capacity, price positioning, packaging and continuity of supply. Confirm the actual retail buying route and the costs of servicing the account. A supermarket listing and an independent wine-shop placement require different stock and support commitments.
Protect the wine and qualify the partner
Ask about storage and temperature control from arrival through final delivery, including service to resort areas. Agree responsibility for product documents, label review and sample clearance before dispatch. Any proposed digital sales or promotional activity should be checked against current local rules rather than inferred from the existence of a website.

Should I target Bangkok or resort destinations first?
Choose the territory where the buyer has suitable active accounts and can support reliable replenishment. Agree a focused launch before expanding coverage.
